A Quick Progress Report on our Floors

27 Nov

Sorry the photos aren’t very good, but they’re all I have!

Previously …
IMG_4953And here is the same room slightly blurrier (sorry), but with the floors partially sanded.
IMG_4979 (1)I knew that the old floors were making the space look dark but I was still surprised at how much brighter everything is now. James said that it already looks much better than he was expecting.

The wood is actually quite close in colour to my dining table so hopefully that doesn’t look too weird. With the new house I suddenly feel such intense decorating pressure!

The contractors are on schedule to finish up this Sunday and on Monday we can start moving in.

(*decorating pressure intensifies*)

i can’t believe how different it looks! wow. i usually prefer dark floorboards, but this looks so much better.

the table might blend into the floors and make the room look bigger than it would if the table stood out.

I used to prefer dark wooden floors until I lived with them. =( They showed every speck of dust and were so difficult to maintain.

And yeah, it’s the blending into the floors that I’m a little worried about! Hopefully the (eventual) glossiness of the floors will be enough to demarcate it from the table. I don’t remember it being a problem in our rental with light floors, so fingers crossed. =)

Apply strongly coloured rug between table and floor. Problem solved! (Except now you have an extra rug to keep clean).

Yeah we’re hoping to avoid vomitable fabric surfaces for the cats. =(

Revised solution: become an artist and build a rug-size mosaic to position under table. Bonus points if it includes Aphrodite in a shell carriage being conveyed by dolphins and/or porpoises.

Alternate revised solution: buy a tablecloth.

Very nice! I love the new colour and the space!

If I ma ask, why didn’t you buy in Seattle?

    • pamperedhousewife November 29, 2014 at 9:22 am #

It was partially because there were actually affordable rental options in Seattle and partially because we wanted the flexibility. As much as we loved Seattle, I think we always kind of had it in the back of our minds that the Bay Area was James’ eventual goal.
