Christmas Eve Food Shopping

24 Dec

This was the Vic Market at 6:00 this morning.

You can’t tell from that photo, but the guy in the baseball cap looks like he wants to die.

You had to be really forceful in pushing your way through, and the lines for seafood were 6-people deep.

Normally it’s women shopping at the Vic Market, but today all the women had sent their husbands to stand in line because taller people get noticed quicker. I think you could probably achieve the same effect with a flamboyant hat. But anyway, you could see the wives (myself included!) standing behind their husbands, coaching them on what to order. We bought 2kg of green prawns and 2 dozen oysters, and some smoked salmon, proscuitto, olives, ham and salami in the deli section.

Afterwards James and I headed to Safeway to search for sage and do some quick shopping. Then it was to the pet store to pick up kitty litter and some last minute gifts for the cats. Then a couple of hours break before we have to go to Klene’s house to start cooking Christmas dinner!

Just got back from the market. I am visiting from England and usually work on markets at this time of year selling my bread. Great fun felt like Christmas had arrived.
